In fact, a new study says India's climate change costs could cost the nation more than one per cent of its GDP by 2050. The study, carried out by researchers from India's National Institute of Advanced Studies and New York University's Stern School of Business, has revealed the enormous scale of the climate change challenge. Climate change is already costing India's economy about 1.8 per cent of its GDP, says the study, adding that by 2050 this could rise to about 1.9 per cent. It analysed the implications of climate change for India's economy and determined that the costs of climate change are projected to grow with the country's population and its economy. "Our projections show that, over the next four decades, India could spend an estimated $1,024 billion annually to manage climate change and its costs," says Gupta. "This is about one-tenth of India's GDP." The researchers also considered the implications for India's agriculture sector What's New in the?
